(E.g. past, now, future, etc.) Because for example, when something is "**inferior**", like urine, it's easy to see that it's not mine, but a "**superior**" thing like my face, it's easier to start to see it as mine! - #eryu/learning/insight **@@@@** Practice seeing with **"not mine"**, **"does not belong to me"**, and **"not me"**, is **3 different (increasing) levels of ignorance**!! - Vilas: It's not exactly like that. It's very subtle. **Craving, conceit and views** are subtle. **Explained BELOW**! - ![[Anatta#^etan-mama-etc]] - @@ Among the 3, the **easiest -> hardest** to remove is: - **ditthi (me atta)** -> **tanha (mama)** -> **mana (aham asmi**) - @@@@ **Goal**: With [[Manasikara|Yoniso Manasikāra]], you should be able to **see the "Face" as "Holes" (Akasa)** — Which is the **easiest to penetrate** within the 5 Qualities!! - [[MN62 Mahārāhulovādasutta]] is a **Must-have** **PREREQUISITE** for practicing [[Anapanassati]]!!!! ## Part 2 - Fabulous Overview of Dhamma & Practice #dhamma/overview/best - ([Youtube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhzXRyMqYfg)) - Vilas described the 2 extreme views in [[DN1 Brahmajālasutta|DN1]] and how it relates to the 2 extreme views described in [[SN56.11 Dhammacakkappavattanasutta]] - And why when **MN1** was taught by the Buddha, **NONE** of the people were happy.. - (0-28m) @@ And he proceeds to give a **complete overview of Dhamma** around [[Yathabhuta|Yathābhūta Ñāna]] :) - (28m onwards) @@ And he gave an superb overview of the **practice** using the 3 steps of [[Samatha]], [[Vipassana]], and how [[Anupassana]] brings the automatic process of [[Noble 8-fold Path]], using the example of [[Ahara]]. - An example of watching the holes (akasa) in the nose 1. **Samatha** is getting ready for observing the nose (by calming all Sankhara) 2. **Vipassana** is to observe the nose (e.g. watching its holes) 3. **Anupassana** is a deeper state where you are "watching" the nose as a 3rd person ## Part 3 - Practice session ([Youtube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bXEhkzQrAo)) - (8m - 1hr) Guided meditation ##### Steps of [[Anapanassati]] #dhamma/practice/important > [!info] In accordence with the [[MN118 Ānāpānassatisutta#^16-steps-note|16 steps]] in Ānāpānassatisutta 1. @@@@ You have to **Watch** (like a **3rd person / Camera**) the **in and out breath** with **==KEEN Attention!==** - @@ When you **watch keenly**, breath slows down (from long to short, heavy to light) 2. ([1h3m in](https://youtu.be/3bXEhkzQrAo?t=3777)) **@@@@** the 3rd step of Anapanassati **(*sabbakāyapaṭisaṁvedī*)**, it's observing the **==Whole body going up and down==**, with a **==Floating==** sensation. ^7c34c6 - You have to **"feel"** the body, from **toe to the head** and **head to toe**. - @@ As you breath in, observe that the **==entire body is going up==**, like a **==floatation device==**, when you are breathing out, feel the **==entire body collapase==**. - @@ When you get **floating sensation** in the 3rd step, **you get ==pīti==**. 3. Eventually, the **body movement ==STOPS== completely** — no more up and down. 4. From **pīti**, you get **==sukha==** 5. When you get **sukha**, the **==cittasaṅkhāra== (feeling and perception) calms and stops** 6. Then you get **==pamoda== (Very glad)** 7. Due to **pamoda**, Hence you get **perfect ==[[Samadhi|Samādhi]]==** (*samādahaṁ cittaṁ*) 8. From Samadhi, you will get **==vimocaya==** - Vimocaya happens because the **mind is no longer associating with the 5 dhatu** 9. vimocaya leads to **aniccanupassana** - **@@ And once the mind is "freed up", it can see anicca** 10. aniccanupassana leads to **viraganupassana** - when anicca happens, viraga happens 11. when viraga happens, **nirodha** happens 12. Eventually leads to **paṭinissagga**, and turning itself into **[[Nibbana|Nibbāna]]** - You will know when you have achieved Nibbana, but do not take it as **"mine"** - @@ There is no "you" who is experiencing Nibbana; **there is only Nibbana** ###### Final notes - **Overview:** ==Stop Vacīsaṅkhāra -> stop Kāyasaṅkhāra -> stop Cittasaṅkhāra -> Samadhi -> Vimocaya -> aniccanupassana, viraganupassana, nirodhanupassana, patinissagga -> Nibbana== - 3 types of sankhara stops - **Vacīsaṅkhāra** stops due to step (1) above - **Kāyasaṅkhāra** stops at step (3) above - **Cittasaṅkhāra** stops at step (5) above, due to **sukha** - when the 3 stops, you're in **perfect Samadhi**
