- (**SUPERB**, Deep and detailed) Vilas gives talk on what is the [[4 Noble Truths]] based on [[MN141 Saccavibhaṅgasutta|MN141]].
##### [[Dukkha]] (first 50 minutes)
- **@@@@** Jatipi dukkha - Because **to create ANY condition, you have to take the "pain"**! (i.e. **sankhara dukkha**) ^c8e8fb
- Whether it's giving birth to a child, or building a house, getting a new job, etc. etc.
- Eryu: wow..
- **@@ Or: the condition is a unwanted one that it brings pain by itself..**
- **Eryu: Or, even when you've put in effort it doesn't work -- Viparinama Dukkha.**
- **@@** Jara - everything is decaying, **from the moment of its birth**! From a new house, to your memory, to your satisfactions (from a pleasurable experience), and eventually to your body. ^38da91
- **@@@@ Eryu**: and hence there is always a **sankhara dukkha and Dukkha dukkha. (Viparinama Dukkha is when the decay and death is sudden and unexpected)**
- **@@** The definition of "**rupa**" is **that which decays..**
- Marana
- This can be seen even from the cells are dying and being replaced all the time
- Eryu: and this is not just a person dying, but can be seen from dying of any conditions (moving away from an old house, or breaking up with a boyfriend)
- Soka - and because of Jara and marana, there will always be sorrow
- And one would **always be in Distress**
- Parideva
- Contemplating on "**WHY!** Why this happening to me!"
- And most people would start **blaming** others at this stage.
- Dukkha
- Including the physical pain taken to do something (e.g. finishing a project)
- Domanassa - the citta is tormented by the mental pain
- E.g. I did badly in an exam so I **kept on contemplating** how can I explain to my parents (e.g. should I tell the truth and be punished? Should I lie?) Etc.
- Or **losing a job, failing a project, lost on an investment** etc.
- **@@ I'm** **tormented by keep on having the thoughts** regarding the loss.
- **@@** Anatta: and the person has **no control** over the cita and cetasila and over this **mental suffering**.. (because the thoughts keep coming)
- Upayasa - the feeling of **helplessness**
- **yampicchaṁ na labhati tampi dukkhaṁ**
- **@@ One wishes: "Oh! If only** \[something\] **doesn't have to go through birth, illness, aging and death, sorrow, lamentation, ...!"**
- Something here can be any conditions -- my body, my work, or a **nightmare** which I don't wish to have.
- But one **cannot get that by wishing.**
- Only when the conditions meet, there is happiness, but that cannot happen per one's wish.
- Saṅkhittena pañcupādānakkhandhā dukkhā
- **@@ Taking the 5 Aggregates as"mine"** and always think I **can do something** about it.
- E.g. when you see that form is nothing but the 4 dathu's, then there is no grasping.
- You have to take the "pain" of grasping
- Like holding a 200kg bag both in you hands, and **in you mind**!
- In medical they say you should **laugh instead of frown**, because frowning use up the energy and creates toxins in the body, whereas if we laugh it release the blocks.
##### [[Noble 8-fold Path]]
- And what is **[[Sati|Right Mindfulness]]**? ^0e000d
- **Kaya** -- It’s when a mendicant meditates by **observing an aspect of the Body** — keen, aware, and mindful, rid of desire and aversion for the world (as per [[MN10 Satipaṭṭhānasutta|MN10]]).
- **@@** For example, contemplate on how **I can neither tell the heart to stop now**, nor can I tell the **heart to go on another 500 years**, and that is **[[Anatta]]**.
- And as soon as I try to **control it -- making it Atta or Nicca -- there will be Dukkha.**
- E.g. I can watch how after I drink water, after a while it turns into urine, which smells and have all the dead cells inside of it, and that's totally outside of my control.
