Tags:: #dhamma/practice/map, #purification, [[MN24 Rathavinītasutta]]
## Overview
- Vilas: what we need to do as a practice:
- sutta reference which speaks in brief: [[MN24 Rathavinītasutta]]
![[MN24 Rathavinītasutta#^7-step-purification|MN24]]
## Steps
### Sila Visuddhi
- What is [[Sila]] Visuddhi?
- a. **Observing precepts the whole day without breaking it**
- b. **Guarding sense doors**
- c. Maintaining the right livelihood
- d. **Pacchavekkhana** - Reflection on **4 requisites** (food, shelter, clothing and medicine)
- for our samadhi to progress, we need to first establish this firmly
- it is upto us whether we want to establish 5 sila or 8 sila
### How to guard the sense doors?
> [!tip] How to [[Indriya Samvara|Guard the sense doors]]?
> #dhamma/practice/important
>
> 1. If any pleasant feeling is coming from any sense doors, **one should observe that it would change to painful or neutral later**. When one pursues pleasant feeling, then "raga" would get developed.
>
> 2. If any painful feeling is coming from any sense doors, **one should observe that that it would change to pleasurable or neutral later**. When one pursues painful feeling, then "dvesha" would get developed.
>
> 3. If any neutrall feeling is coming from any sense doors, **one should observe that that it would change to pleasurable or painful later**. When one pursues neutral feeling, then "moha" would get developed.
>
> @@@@ Thus, one need to observe **==like "third party" to all feelings==** so as to **develop "upekkha" or equanimity to all the 3 feelings**. In this way, the sense door is guarded.
Sutta reference: MN44
![[MN44 Cūḷavedallasutta#^vedana-anusaya|MN44]]
- Q: Why underlying tendency for neutral feeling is ignorance?? How does that lead to attachment
- Vials: because, one does not know exactly on "neutral" feeling
- Q: Can neutral be also understood as being **indifferent**? Or would that be a misunderstanding?
- @@@@ Vilas: **==neutral = indifference==** always...only though wisdom, it becomes **==equanimity==**

### Appendix
Vilas on Nitin's request on writing a manual on [[Anapanassati]]
yeah Nitin..I'm aware of your request, but writing might not serve the purpose as there is **much preliminary work to be done**. Anapana Sati would work when **Sati and Sampajañña is established.** For Sampajañña, **sila should be established.** For Sila, **adeenva (danger) sañña has to be established**...it is very difficult to write all of it as this alone becomes a book
